Heuristic Play
Heuristic play is an enriching type of play where babies and young children interact with everyday objects, rather than toys. The goal of heuristic play is to provide a wide range of sensory stimulation to help children discover and learn things for themselves.
Heuristic Comes from the Greek word to discover or find out.
Heuristic means…
- enabling someone to discover or learn something for themselves.
- "a ‘hands-on’ or interactive heuristic approach to learning"
- proceeding to a solution by trial and error or by rules that are only loosely defined.
- Heuristic play is rooted in young children’s natural curiosity.
- Babies and young children grow, they move beyond being content to simply feel and ponder objects, to wanting to find out what can be done with them.
- Heuristic resources can be sourced from anything if they stimulate the senses and are a good talking point.
